Octavia cries at having to leave her brother. She whispers something in his ear, and Enobarbus and Agrippa debate whether Octavius will cry. Enobarbus opines that it would be bad for Act 3, Scene 5. Act 3, Scene 7. Near the town of Actium, Cleopatra tells Enobarbus that she will go into battle with Antony.
Enobarbus says to himself that one should He says that he will fight Octavius at sea, against the advice of Canidius. The soldier tells Canidius Antony should not fight at sea, and Canidius agrees. He says Act 3, Scene Enobarbus cries out that Antony is fleeing the fight. He says that he will go surrender himself to Octavius. The story of war, seduction and love is incomplete without an oracle, or a guide for the audience at least. Out of many characters, Enobarbus stands out because of his narratorial position and affiliations to Mark Antony. He is the rational foil to Antony and is almost relied on by the audience Budra He is as a chorus figure because the play depicts life after Julius Caesar and Enobarbus gives us enough background information to fill in the blanks. His personality is logical and his humor is grim but not malicious. As a lens, Enobarbus allows us to see through the characters of the play, showing us their real selves.
The play was first performed, by the King's Men , at either the Blackfriars Theatre or the Globe Theatre in around ;   its first appearance in print was in the Folio of The major antagonist is Octavius Caesar , one of Antony's fellow triumvirs of the Second Triumvirate and the first emperor of the Roman Empire. The tragedy is mainly set in the Roman Republic and Ptolemaic Egypt and is characterized by swift shifts in geographical location and linguistic register as it alternates between sensual, imaginative Alexandria and a more pragmatic, austere Rome. Many consider Shakespeare's Cleopatra, whom Enobarbus describes as having "infinite variety", as one of the most complex and fully developed female characters in the playwright's body of work. These contradictory features have led to famously divided critical responses. It can be described as a history play though it does not completely adhere to historical accounts , as a tragedy though not completely in Aristotelian terms , as a comedy , as a romance , and according to some critics, such as McCarter,  a problem play.

When the play opens, Antony has neglected his duties as a ruler in order to live in Egypt, where he carries on a highly visible love affair with Cleopatra. Although she tends to make a spectacle of her emotions, one cannot doubt the genuine nature of her love for Antony.
Enobarbus is Antony's most devoted friend; he is so loyal and so trusted, in fact, that he is able to comment freely, even when he feels critical of Antony. And he has much to be critical of, for he can reason in situations when Antony's sense of reason deserts him. When Antony is torn by indecision, Enobarbus speaks up; he says what he feels should be done and, most important, he is not blinded, as Antony is, by an all-consuming infatuation with Cleopatra. Enobarbus often serves the function of the commentator. He can move about freely, he sees much that occurs among the heads of state, and thus he forms his own conclusions, which he shares with his comrades and the audience.
