The spread of Coronavirus is causing in the society all around the world a considerable degree of fear, worry and concern and particularly among healthcare workers that are at increased risk for infection. The role of infection control in the design of hospitals is increasing every day. This paper highlights the role of heating, ventilating and air-conditioning minimizing the risk of infection from airborne transmission within the built environment through the application of best practices.

Research related to the naturally ventilated hospital buildings was outside the scope of this review article. After , a total of papers were identified that fit the inclusion criteria of this study. Of these, papers have been included in this review to understand the relationship between the health outcomes of a patient and the indoor environment of a mechanically ventilated hospital building. The purpose of this literature review was to summarize how indoor environmental parameters related to mechanical ventilation systems of a hospital building are impacting patients. Future interdisciplinary collaborative research has been identified and can lead to specific optimum ranges for indoor environmental parameters in different spaces for hospital buildings.

Engineers are always looking for a software that will help them with the designing process and make it easier. The Society and its members focus on building systems, energy efficiency, indoor air quality, refrigeration and sustainability within the industry. The goal of 'Whole Building' Design is to create a successful high-performance building by applying an integrated design and team approach to the project during the planning and programming phases. Indoor air quality control of HVAC system Abstract: Reliable and optimal monitoring and control of ventilation system are essential for a heating, ventilation and air conditioning HVAC system to maintain adequate indoor air quality with least energy consumption. This paper presents the development and validation of a control algorithm that adapts to the dynamics of a HVAC system using sensor-based demand-controlled ventilation. The control strategy, which is based on monitoring and modelling of indoor carbon dioxide CO 2 concentration, is employed to respond to the changes of indoor CO 2 generation through appropriate adjustment of ventilation rates, i.

As this document is concerned with HVAC systems in relation to indoor air quality, the remainder of this discussion will focus on systems that distribute conditioned.

Between attending classes, working a part-time job, going to the gym, finding time to socialize, and remembering about that weekly quiz an hour before lecture, the inevitable exhaustive and delusional feelings students often experience begin to set in before there is time for an afternoon nap. But that sluggish, unfocused feeling does not always reflect their sleep, dietary or even exercise patterns. Rather, it could be the result of poor indoor air quality IAQ found in many buildings on campus, places where students, in addition to faculty and staff, spend much of their day.

This paper presents results of over 34, survey responses to air quality and thermal comfort questions in buildings in US, Canada, and Finland. With respect to thermal comfort and air quality performance goals set out by standards, most buildings appear to be falling far short. Occupant surveys offer a means to systematically measure this performance, and also to provide diagnostic information for building designers and operators.

Clean, fresh air is the most important requirement for good indoor air quality IAQ in all buildings, but it is especially important with regard to the environments within hospitals and other healthcare facilities. The literature indicates that buildings with heating, ventilating and air conditioning HVAC systems may have an increased risk of sick building syndrome SBS and building-related illness BRI if they are not well maintained. Microorganisms are brought into hospitals by people, air currents, water, construction materials and equipment. The main objective of this study was to assess the degree of fungal and bacterial contamination in the University Clinical Centre in Banja Luka, which is directly connected to the HVAC system.

The University recognizes the impact that indoor air quality may have in the workplace.
