On Tuesday, January 28th, our Caucus for Kids team was able to join former Vice President Joe Biden on his tour bus as part of our Candidate Conversation series. Attendees from our team included Brian Ahlberg, Jill Applegate and Emilee Harris of Every Child Matters, Lana Shope of Iowa Community Action Association and Sheila Hansen from the Child and Family Policy Center.
When speaking about children’s health, Biden says that he will continue to ensure maternal health and expand upon Obamacare so that more Americans will be insured. He also hopes to expand universal pre-K to all three and four year olds, and renew focus on care for infants and toddlers.
Biden also talked about his plans for reduction of child abuse and restructuring the foster care system. He also said that he would ensure family economic security by increasing the minimum wage to $15 and hour, and increase corporate responsibility so that businesses invest more into their employees.
Finally, Biden said he would address equal opportunity by implementing his criminal justice reform plan, that makes sure no children enter adult prisons as correctional action, and continue to work to end systematic racism.
